Weight Loss Tips - Easy Snack Ideas For A Healthy Diet

It is generally drummed into dieters that snacking is bad and that it should be avoided when you are trying to lose weight. There is actually absolutely nothing wrong with a few snacks between a meal so long as the snack is healthy and nutritional. The mistake too many people make when on a diet is eating a very small breakfast then of course they are hungry and can’t wait until lunch so they head straight for something very high in sugar or fat to satisfy their hunger and their craving.  It is far better to eat a slightly bigger, but still healthy breakfast that is going to keep you satisfied until lunch-time and to make sure you drink enough water, this wards off hunger. Although there are some snacks that you can include in your daily diet that will not interfere with the weight loss process and also stop you feeling hungry.

You do not have to be strict and never ever have any of the so-called bad treats just that these should really be limited when following a weight loss program. But not only that, excessively sugary foods are damaging to tooth enamel and foods high in fat content are bad for your cholesterol, heart and blood pressure. A good rule to follow is the 80/20 rule. Eat 80% of healthy nutritious foods and the other 20% can be anything you like.

By eating a varied, balanced diet your body is receiving everything that needs and then some. You do not have to starve yourself; you just have to be a little bit more selective about what you choose to eat and how often you choose to eat it.

It is important to have these kinds of snacks on hand so you are not always tempted to reach for the biscuit tin:

Dairy: Light, low fat yoghurt, cottage cheese with pineapple or strawberry and low fat-cheese, flavoured milk.

Fruit and Veg: Raw vegetables with seasoning and a fat-free dip such as sour cream, a fruit salad either with or without dipping sauce, whole wheat pitta bread with vegetables or hummus. Dried fruits such as apricots and raisins.

Savoury snacks: Low-fat tortilla chips with salsa dip, whole-grain rice cakes, low-fat popcorn, breadsticks and flatbreads. Raw nuts, preferably nuts that are un-salted, Olives, cereal bars.

Drinks: Flavoured water, Fruit juices (not fizzy), Home-made smoothies; fat-free hot chocolate. You can have usual beverages like tea and coffees just cut out the sugar and if you can stand the taste; try removing the milk in tea for a healthier beverage.

Treats: Frozen yoghurt, Dark chocolate (a lot healthier than milk chocolate!) Maraschino Cherries, Sugar-free jelly beans, dried fruits dipped in honey, Sugar-free jelly.

Weight Loss Tips - What Are The Top 4 Diets?

This is important weight loss message, what is top 4 diets?

The Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is very a low-carbohydrate diet. If we reduce the amount of carbs and eat more protein and fat, our bodies will naturally lose weight by burning our stored body fat a lot more efficiently. The problem with the Atkins diet is that because the body is burning its own fat, depending on what you eat it can have a few unpleasant side effects in some people such as bad breath and constipation. And with such a restricted diet, where you are eating a very limited amount of fruit and vegetables and quite simply just pure protein and saturated fats, you are increasing your risk of heart disease and some cancers.

The potential is there to lose a lot of weight very quickly on the Atkins diet as you will tend to feel fuller for longer by eating a lot of carbs, but this kind of diet when followed long- term is harmful to your health.

South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet is quite similar to the Atkins diet in that it is another low carbohydrate/protein rich diet except it is a lot more balanced. Instead of sticking rigidly to low carbohydrate foods throughout the dieting phase, it focuses on how each good and bad carb foods effects your blood sugar levels.

You stick to two weeks of strict restraint of what you can and cannot eat and from then onwards you can start introducing healthy carbohydrates and fruit to your diet again, it is all about experimenting with your diet and watching the weight patterns, learning what triggers your body to gain weight. If you begin to gain weight again you can easily revert back to the two week strict diet plan. As low-carb diets go, this is a far healthier diet as it not only allows encourages dieters not to cut anything out and to eat everything in moderation to maintain a healthy weight. This means you are far more likely to stick to this diet and reach your goals with great success.

The Cabbage Soup Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet is as it sounds, eating Cabbage Soup in place of your main meals and very little else. It reduces the body’s calorie levels to the point of near-starvation.

You are allowed fruit and vegetables alongside the soup but you must only eat to the point of feeling satisfied not stuffed! This diet should not be used for longer than a week as it is generally used when weight is to be lost very quickly e.g.) for a wedding etc. Alcohol is not allowed, water and unsweetened juices are the only beverages you should be drinking throughout the week. You will lose weight relatively quickly on this diet but it is only suitable as a very short term fix, side effects include flatulence and bad breath. People with long term health conditions should consult a health professional but for healthy otherwise fit people, this diet should not cause any harm.

The Zone Diet

The Zone diet is different to other diets in that it discourages the intake of carbohydrates, bad fats, processed foods and sugars and focuses more on us eating more meat, fruit and vegetables. Dieters are encouraged to also calculate the amount of calories that they need a day and it also incites regular eating patterns and regular consumption of good fats and low glycaemic foods. It is a healthy and controlled way of eating which guarantees an effective weight loss although many people may find it costly and difficult to follow.

Weight Loss Tips - Are Green Teas and Weight Loss Teas the Same

Chinese Green Tea is made solely from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. They are prepared by undergoing minimal oxidation as they are processed to retain as much of the useful elements as possible green tea originates from China and has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years to promote good health and longevity.

More recently green tea has been grown in other parts of Asia with different varieties being grown in different areas depending on the region.

Green tea has over the past few decades been subjected to intensive scientific and medical studies to determine its many reported health benefits. Green tea has been found to have many properties; it has been shown to reduce the chance of some heart diseases, certain cancers and reducing of high blood pressure. It is the effects that it has on the body when used as a weight loss product that has hit the headlines in recent years. It stimulates the metabolism to enable the body to burn more calories, which in turn burns body fat. This is a process known as thermo genesis. It also causes fat oxidation.

There are two ways to lose weight, we either reduce energy intake, or increase our energy expenditure. People are quite naturally looking for options that can help safely help raise the metabolism without the need for extensive exercise or effort...

In a clinical study shown in the world famous American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was proven that drinking green tea caused a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), and at the same time having a significant effect on fat oxidation.

Before the tests some of the effects were originally thought to be down to the amount of caffeine in green tea, but the tests discovered that the tea actually has properties that go beyond the effects that would be caused by caffeine alone. When the researchers carried out tests using the same levels of caffeine that is in green tea, the tests failed to record any change in the metabolism. It was prove that the active ingredients in green tea all interact with each other to promote increased metabolism and fat oxidation.

The test on green tea showed that drinking green tea accounted for a 4% increase in Thermo genesis, (the body rate of burning calories), which means substantial implications for weight control when taken daily.

If users are going to incorporate green tea into their weight loss plans, what is the best way to go about it? The best way would be to choose a reputable brand that can offer approved results, research into the best types of green tea and find a blend that incorporates a variety of these into its mix.

Weight Loss Tips - How To Maintain A Healthy Relationship With Food While Dieting

If you’re on a fat loss diet plan, there may be a chance that you could come to ‘fear’ certain foods after so long.  You’ve been conditioned to know which foods are ‘good’ and which foods are ‘bad’ and do everything you can to stay away from the bad ones and only eat the good ones.

The big problem with this good and bad thinking however is that it forms a negative association in your mind regarding certain foods in the diet.  If you’re not careful, this could lead to eating disorders over time, which are very serious and could require extensive treatment to overcome.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the important things that you should remember that will help you maintain a more positive relationship with food while dieting.

Think In Terms Of Healthy Or Not Healthy

The very first thing that you should be doing to maintain a healthy relationship with food is think in terms of healthy or not healthy rather than good or bad.  This shifts the perspective and allows you to focus on the health benefits that certain foods provide, which is a much healthier association.

Try filling your diet with the most nutritious foods that you can, not because they are low in calories but because they will do the most for you from a nutritional point of view.

Plan For Cheat Meals

Next, another thing that you should be doing is planning some cheat meals into your program. Cheat meals are great because they give you psychological relief from strict diets and help you see that eating a food that’s ‘off’ your diet list won’t automatically make you gain all the fat you’ve lost right back.

This is key for maintaining that healthy relationship with food.  Cheat meals should be scheduled once every week or two for maximum benefits.  More frequently may not be a good idea as it could hinder progress, but making sure to get them in every so often is important.

Periodically Take Diet Breaks

Finally, the last thing to keep in mind is that you should periodically add some diet breaks as well.  This is key for helping you learn your new maintenance calorie intake so you don’t start thinking that you must maintain a very low calorie intake in order to succeed with keeping the weight off.

Often what occurs is that as you progress on the diet, your metabolism slows down so you start decreasing your calorie intake further to spark more fat loss, but over time, this leads to a very low calorie intake.

Before you know it you’re scared of eating more again for fear all the weight will come rushing back on.

Diet breaks will not only help to reset your metabolism but also teach you that you can eat more food and still maintain your body weight.

So there you have the most important things to note about maintaining a healthy relationship with food while dieting. For your psychological health, this is a must.
